Work on implementing Riga tram infrastructure development project continues
On October 3, 2017, “Rīgas satiksme” and the Central Finance and Contract Unit signed an agreement on the implementation of project “Development of Tram Infrastructure in Riga”.
After signing the agreement, “Rīgas satiksme” continues to work on organising the procurement “On the Development of the Construction Project for the Building of a New Tram Infrastructure Section and the Reconstruction of the Existing Tram Line”, as a result of which the designer of the new tramline and of that to be reconstructed will be chosen. On March 26, 2018, the Procurement Commission of “Rīgas satiksme” approved the regulation of selecting the candidates for negotiations procedure “On the Delivery of Low-Floor Trams” (ID No.RS/2018/10 KF), and in the coming days the regulation will be published on the websites of “Rīgas satiksme”, the Procurement Monitoring Bureau and in the Official Journal of the European Union, as well in the Electronic Procurement System.
The projects provides for the building of the new 3.6 km long tram line Pērnavas Street – Senču Street – Zirņu Street – Skanstes Street – Sporta Street, as well as the reconstruction of about 3 km of the infrastructure of tram routes No. 5 and 9 to the city centre and for the ensuring of the necessary energy supply, including the building of one new substation and the reconstruction of an existing one, and the building of a new cable network and the contact system.
The project also provides for the building of approximately 11 new tram stops and the purchase of 12 new low-floor trams, as well as the reconstruction of streets in some places, building of a local carriageway, transfer of engineering communications, building of the traffic management system etc.
The total eligible costs of project “Development of Tram Infrastructure in Riga” amount to EUR 97.4 M, including about EUR 70 M from the EU Cohesion Fund and EUR 27.4 M from “Rīgas satiksme”. Now it is planned that the building works in the sections to be reconstructed could start at the end of this year, yet the day of starting the building works will be known only after the construction project is developed and the building procurement is organised. Today we expect that the preparation of documentation for all the construction projects will take at least one year, because all the building projects need to be harmonised in conformity with the requirements of construction regulations, including their harmonisation with engineering communications network holders and real estate owners.
The building of the Skanste tram line will enable the construction of a tram loop bypassing Riga’s historic centre. It will open up opportunities for organising new routes, which will pass by the city centre via Skanste, relieve public transport traffic in K.Barona Street and create preconditions for the routes network’s further development of in the direction of Purvciems and Pļavnieki.
